The story has great potential for surprises in the relationship between the former enemies. We might make assumptions about the emotional state of enemies -- that they hate each other -- but there are many places to take this. I've been re-watching the World At War documentary from the 70s, which has many interviews with combatants and other survivors from the war. It struck me that the British and German interviewees had a lot of respect, understanding, admiration, and good will toward each other so soon after a horrendous conflict. Not all enemies are equal. We're not talking about centuries of hatred, bigotry, and animosity between these two peoples. Yet, a short time before, their respective air forces were bombing the hell out of the enemy's cities, killing many civilians and leaving the rest homeless. A lot of inherent conflict here. I love the idea.
