The P is recruited because he sold a method of monitoring financial transactions to the National Security Agency. The VC firm realizes that the technology was all adapted and has no restrictions on purchase. They also realize that with just minor changes, the technology goes from monitoring to manipulating the financial transactions. They initially try to influence the P onto the dark side, but when that doesn’t work, they blackmail him. The P sets up the system with a surprise of his own.
