I'd never heard of CANDY but it looks like a great candidate for Bad Movie Night. It'd have to go a long way to beat BARBARELLA for sheer WTF'ery, though.

Any thoughts on the possible Barbarella remake, Scott? Seems like a losing proposition no matter if they play it straight or make it campy.

I saw this thing on The Movie Channel in the 80's back when I'd watch ANYthing that appeared on the pay cable channels after midnight.

Er... nevermind.

Anyway...

Candy is a total disaster but a fun one. It did make it to DVD about five years ago, you probably could track it down.

As to a Barbarella remake... I heard Rodriguez was going to take a stab at it a few years back but it didn't ultimately come to anything.

If you get a chance, check out Roman Coppola's little ode to that type of thing with his film "CQ." Nifty mix of Eurotrash shenanigans!

TBSR and Jeff: I really recommend getting 'lit' [pick your poison] and screening Candy. It is utterly bizarre. Now I say this not having seen it for perhaps 4 decades and it could be the worst piece of crap ever. But I just remember not even having words to describe what I'd seen.

I dunno' about "worst piece of crap ever" (I reserve that distinction for most modern summer studio releases!) but it certainly is an overblown stinkburger of the highest order.

Still, it is entertaining, in that "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" kind of way. You get the feeling that everyone involved thought they were making some truly groundbreaking, crucial bit of art.

Makes a fine double feature for other such late 60's misfires as "Myra Breckinridge" (Rex Reed's finest hour?) or "Gas-s-s-s: or It May Become Necessary to Destroy the World in Order to Save It."
