I read this anthology of Terry Southern a while back. A fun read: Now Dig This

And, apparently, you can read some of it for free.

@cfan: Sweet! Thanks for that!

His quote on how it takes a lot of anti-talent and bad talent to make a bad film, they just don't happen by chance, is to die for!
Have a copy of 'Now Dig This' and also a few of his fiction books. 'Blue Movie' is a MUST read. He dedicated it to Stanley K. It's the story of a big film director, multiple award winner, who wants to make an 'authentic' blue film, so he hires the top actors and actresses in Hollywood and the world to be a part of a pornographic film.Of course he can't tell the studio that so he tells them he's shooting an art film and even shoots random forest footage to keep them at bay. It is probably the funniest, sleaziest, dirtiest books I've ever read! And I'm sure it's based on (at least some) real events :p
Scott, kudos for doing such great stuff. In the past week itself it's been Kurosawa, then Southern, both my absolute favourites. And if you are a Kubrick fan, like me, check this out:

Keep up the good work :) \m/

@Nikhil: The playing chess with Kubrick thing is great. As you know, one of my goals on GITS is to aggregate as much content as possible with 'primary sources,' that is actual professional screenwriters. That way, it's not just me jabbering on, but the pure words themselves of a vast variety of creative film writers. So anytime you find anything with some of the past 'masters,' please fwd to me. Happy to promote.

Kurosawa. Kubrick. Southern. Awesome talents, all.
