The real fascinating quirk of all this Tron ballyhoo is this...

The movie was a colossal failure.

I must ask, how many times in history has there been a big budget sequel to a big budget bust-o like Tron?

The thing took on a second life on pay cable and home video, certainly, but this, to me, is sort of unprecedented!

(I'm not complaining, mind you... I loved Tron (I was fourteen when it came out) and emptied ALL of my pocket change into those Tron machines you mentioned, Scott!)

hah! I posted this on my blog and emailed the clip to you, but I think you beat me to the punch on your blog!

Personally I think it looks awesome.

Little younger than you guys, I had Tron toys. I was entranced by the movie as a kid. I didnt pay a lick of attention to the plot back then, just fell in love with the f/x, imagery, and idea that you could be sucked into a game.
This movie will do the same thing for the youngest generations, so if the movie is a bust, I am sure the product sales will more than make up for the loss at the cinema.

Yep, I fess up to playing the "Tron" videogame. Wasn't too shabby at it, either.

I've lost my touch, though. The Museum of the Moving Image in my old neighborhood has one of the arcade consoles. I tried playing it again, got my ass served to me.
