Hi, I love this blog and drop by often to read your posts but this is my first comment.

I watched this movie and it was good but what exactly is the "thing" that makes this an award winning film?

Thanks. :)

The reason is simple. The premise is kinda new. A story of guy who's job is to fire people and hates the ground and rather stay in the air. You know when you have a character like that, the you have a good movie for sure.

The supporting characters are all real and authentic. No one dimensional characters.

The pace and dialogue. Both are effective and entertaining. I wasn't bored at all.

No to mention a few surprises that even helped to expose more themes and add more depth the characters.

(Ryan and Alex thing if u remember).

That's for the script. Put it in the hands of an excellent director and amazing cast, and you have an award winning movie.

It's topical, and very well crafted. For some reason a common reaction to this is to assume that therefore the film is deep, substantive. I don't think it is, really, but maybe it's not trying to be anything other than a modern portrait. (This is not to say men with dislikable jobs and wanderlust are a new development, just this manifestation is new.)

Honestly I wasn't that impressed, but I think that has more to do with the premise -- to me just seems very obvious, and not very interesting. But: very, very well crafted, and I do think that matters.
