At first I assumed that his credit for "Herbie" was, in fact, referring to "Herbie: The Love Bug" – and obviously I was wildly mistaken in that assumption.

Still, that would've been wicked awesome to find that George Lucas wrote "Herbie: The Love Bug."

But no, I haven't seen any of those, I don't think.

I haven't seen any of those either, but I'm pretty sure that they are his student films, mostly abstract/experimental shorts.

Actually looking at IMDB it looks like "The Emperor" is a documentary, and "Filmmaker" is a 'making of' Francis Ford Coppola's "The Rain People."

I'd definitely like to see some of these, but they're probably pretty hard to find.

I've seen all of them. USC has them.

They're all shorts. Most are very avante garde.

Herbie -- is named after Herbie Hancock. It's the sound track. The film is ~ 4 minutes of lights moving in the reflection off a car. However, you are so close that it becomes an abstract moving "painting."

My favorite is The Emperor. I'd really love a chance to see it again. It struck me profoundly about the power of editing and sound design. (Not the content, per se, but literally how it's put together). It's about a DJ. And you can see its influence in American Graffiti.
