Scariest movie EVER made -- for me that is. This movie gave me nightmares for YEARS. Wouldn't say I "love it" but I think there's a lot in this movie worthy of studying.

The "thriller" aspect of "Halloween" (1978) is simply the best in its genre. The ACT III Michael Myers rampage chase of Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) IS the benchmark so many slasher movies have tried to emulated for the past 30 + years.

Cinematically I really liked the choices these filmmakers made. Michael Myers white mask seen in the background... lurking, when the camera is on Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) in GENIOUS. How close is the moster to the girl? Is she safe? Can he get her? Oops, Michael Myers just slipped off camera -- what's he doing now? GENIOUS.

And of cource the accompanying music perfectly complimented the thriller aspect as well.

Halloween is easily my favourite ever horror movie (and one of my all time top-five movies) so I have BIG LOVE for it!

I've just finished writing a horror and Carpenter's soundtrack was the perfect piece of music to write to. There is plenty to love in this movie but what I love most about Halloween is all the act one stuff when Laurie keeps seeing the fleeting glimpses of Michael (opposite her classroom, behind the bush, behind the washing line). It's a great lesson in building up suspense.

Halloween scared the absolute crap out of me as a kid...

But about that Dues ex... You mean a character can have an act of god save them at the last minute and it still be effective screen drama?

Hmmmmmm. Rules. Schmoolz.
