And I'm now, finally, after almost 20 years of writing scripts, actively searching for the ONE that Mr. Rubin is speaking of.

I definitely agree with this one. Acting class taught me that it's important to know exactly what each character wants underneath all the words, at all times, in every scene, in every line.

These rules prove there's not but one rule. - A good story that someone besides you likes.

For numbers 12 and 13 I found myself saying (out loud), "Me too!"

Number 25 gave me great perspective, I never thought to think about dialogue in that way. It makes perfect sense though, so I guess, somewhere in my bones, I already knew that and just hadn't acknowledged it.

#27, definitely. I have a pretty good idea where I'm going with a scene, sequence, script, but I don't use a GPS when I drive or write. Sometimes I make wrong turns, but I find interesting places and better routes and eventually get there. The next time I take the trip it gets easier and clearer until finally I find the best route. How's that for an extended metaphor?
Anyway, I have seen all these interviews (Netflix has them) and this is really a great resource and frankly the only kind of advice I really take seriously. I like hearing how other people work, for a number of reasons, not the least of which is understanding that we have to find our own way of working and our own reasons for doing what we do. That's in life, not just in writing.
