This weekend, it was...

"The Boys Are Back" - a brilliant and honest piece from director Scott Hicks, with an adapted screenplay by Allan Cubitt. I first saw it at the London Film Festival last October, but was well worth seeing twice. (If you've tried to honestly relate to a child, there's much to appreciate here.)

"The Desert Within" – a Mexican 2008 film, highly meditative and... depressing. Quite well done though. Has anybody else seen this? I'm still trying to figure out how the film works, segmented into a non-traditional 'Four Chapters' structure.

Finally, just got back from a UK preview showing of "The Princess and the Frog." Yes, it's taken a while to open here. We did have John Musker and Ron Clements for a Q&A afterward, though, so that made up for it. A great, classic Disney animated film.

Well, I think that Measures should have been their second movie. The first may have been better as dramatic action.

But the big story is Avatar. As a self-proclaimed box office pundit, I'm still truly amazed by this. 6 weeks at Number 1 and twice the box office of the number two movie.
Higher 3D prices can't really account for that.
