Good advice. Also make sure you're targeting an audience that is already on the web. A web series about a senior citizen home is going to have a hard time attracting viewers in that demographic. Look at The Guild for a great example of a web series that targeted an audience already heavily involved in the web.

@Josh Daws: You raise a point that is so obvious, it sometimes gets overlooked - including by me in my response! Yes. #1 rule: Know who your audience is!

Thanks Scott and Josh. Those are all points I should consider. I was more concerned with the writing aspect of series, such as if there are things to be aware of when trying to turn a short into the pilot of a series. Focusing on the characters is a good guiding light though.

You're on a roll today, Scott. Two of my biggest questions answered in one day.

great post, also very timely. paradigm shifts in technology are making the web a more and more viable place to get your stories out. There's no "traditional" financing & money-making model yet so it's kind of the wild west, but that's part of the fun. And the first comment makes a vital point.

Presently co-producing a web series, shooting in a few weeks. Learning as we go. Will keep you posted about progress!
