Aaah, bliss. I liken it more to the advice you posted previously about "going boldly" - I don't think it was about Star Trek.
I guess also I truly feel that this is a learned skill and can be abstracted to be "sure fire" (in screenwriting parlance you aren't allowed to feel you can create quality every time) like the doctor who has studied open heart surgery or the lawyer whose well-versed in contract law.
I have found several great resources for Hwood info, such as; Phillippa Burgess a Manager who works with Chris Soth and Corky Kessler an entertainment lawyer who works a lot in finance.
Again it's just about being as professional as you would be as a lawyer or doctor. Know your business, let the rest work itself out.
