Dialogue aside, the method that was created for Mr. Miyagi to teach Daniel karate in a rather real-world application is brilliant. Associating car washing, fence painting and floor sanding as forms to teach applicable karate techniques is unparalleled. It's one of the most intriguing aspects of that film. Going further, it lends the opportunity for Miyagi and Daniel as characters to evolve on screen, as Daniel gets frustrated, not realizing the connection and why it is he is wasting his time doing chores. Lastly, the culmination of the training, Miyagi blends it together for him, "Show me... paint the fence!" and the sudden realization on Daniels part that ensues.
