Do writers really hang out with each other?

Paul, I know a bunch of LA writers who get together frequently and I'm always interacting with them online, even at a distance. And there's the monthly Black List happy hour events in like 14 cities. I'll be joining the one in Chicago when I move there. But I'm sure there are plenty of writers who prefer not to hang with other writers.

I've met and were friendly with other writers at different events and around town....but it was more of a casual friendly thing.... I wouldn't say it was the level of closeness that Shane Black describes. From the way, he talks about it interviews, his writer friends are close friends that he hangs out with every day. My experience has been more of the LA variety...maybe hang out a few times but nothing more than friendly acquaintances or "friends" you maybe see every now and then. It's quite different from aspiring actors....they seem to hang out a lot after class and keep in touch more. It was a completely different vibe.

Paul, early on before Shane sold Lethal Weapon, he lived in a house with several other male writers known as the Pad O' Guys. You can google it. Ed Solomon was one. Can't remember the others. Also think he leaned on those friendships when he went through some challenging times in his personal life.
