I was talking about this with a buddy a while ago. I assumed there had to be a movie actually called ONE LAST JOB. (Aside from a few shorts on IMDB. Sorry IMDB and student filmmakers, but I don't care about student films!)

Carlito's Way is probably one of the best that I've seen because the motives of Carlito are so tragically centered around it. In the same vein, Superfly.

DeNiro's character in Heat eventually makes this an objective.

Seven, with Morgan Freeman, who just wants to retire and not have to deal with any more horror.

Good point about Seven (or Se7en). If I recall, the screenplay initially focused more on Freeman's character instead of Pitt's.

Gone in Sixty Seconds

The Brothers Bloom is probably my most recent favorite in this category.

A guilty pleasure... Brett Ratner's After the Sunset. Seems to fit the One Last Job description nicely.

I would have to include Lethal Weapon in this discussion as Danny Glover's character is ready to retire, so all the danger becomes exponentially more costly as the movie plays.
It is an interesting difference between Heat, where a criminal is having a last selfish go, versus Carlito's Way where the protagonist is trying to be virtuous.
I love both movies and both characters even though Deniro is really a slimeball criminal in Heat.
Is that because the acting was done at such a high level, or the story was told well? Or just a combination of both?

Is any one forgetting THE SCORE with De Niro, Brando and Norton? That was the ultimate 'one last job' film. Its main focus revolved around it. I expected more from the film due to the class A actors it possessed, but I did enjoy the twist and ending. A descent watch.
