Seeing this beautiful film in Japanese with SUBTITLES is... poetic. I love this and all his other films. I agree that he has another mythological structure that underlies his films. It is refreshing to see alternatives to the antag and protag structures. Thank you for this post!

This was a beautiful film. I wanted more of it to be honest. Like all his movies, miyazaki does an excellent job of creating magical universes, and I always find myself getting absorbed into them.

Have you seen "My Neighbor Totoro"? Will Ponyo be opening around here, apart from the other night when you had all those folks sitting in your yard?

@Jeff, to my knowledge, it's not showing in the area. It opened in 800 screens and did okay business (I believe $15M), but is on the downside of its run. The Japanese language version, which I would guess is the best version, should be available on DVD.
