Hey Mickey (and/or Scott), I've got what I think is a great idea for a sci-fi pilot, but I always hear how you're not supposed to write sci-fi on spec. I would think it's obvious that you (Mickey) disagree with that advice, but what are your thoughts? Is sci-fi really difficult to break in with and, if so, what genre would you suggest wannabes write in? I have ideas for multiple genres that I like all about the same. So do you think there's a specific genre in TV that can give me an edge? Thanks.

Hey! I don't necessarily know if it's more difficult to break in with in relation to other genres but I think it could depend on what you're writing and what your goals are. If you're writing a STAR WARS-style space opera that's wall to wall visual fx with multiple worlds, etc, that's likely going to be a tough sale. But if it's grounded and produceable you stand a much better chance. I think in the end you have to write the idea you're most passionate about. I'd pick the one that, if it existed, if someone else made it and it was airing right now, that you wouldn't miss an episode of. I truly believe your passion is what will give you the edge.
