A Woman Under the Influence is one of the most agonizing experiences I've ever had in a theater... rivaled only by Breaking the Waves and Dancer in the Dark, I suppose. (Lars Von Trier knows how to get to me in ways I'd rather not even discuss...)
However, watching poor Gena Rowlands come unraveled before her husband and family is so real, so aching, so demoralizing... it was a film I loved but if I never saw again, I'd be just fine with that.
