"Jennifer's Body" was a hoot. A rare night out for the wife n' I turned out to be capped by this very sharp little satire. We both found something to love about it.

I think I know why many are reacting so negatively to it, and I hate to "go there" but I'm going to...

It's a slasher film by WOMEN. With, ultimately, very FEMALE sensibilities. Most guys HATE that. I remember talking to a friend of mine about Tarantino's DEATH PROOF, a film I rather enjoyed. He absolutely despised it (not unusual...many did) but his reasons for despising it were fascinating. He hated seeing Stuntman Mike lose to a bunch of women. I reminded him that Stuntman Mike was a deranged killer. That didn't seem to matter much. He couldn't understand how a cool guy in a hot car could get taken to the cleaners by a bunch of women. He said, and I quote, "the movie lost all credibility with me at that point."

(I didn't tell him that HE lost a whole lot of credibility with ME after our Death Proof conversation but nevermind that now...)

Either way, here's to GITS for continuing to champion a fantastic writer!

Scott-man-dude, because of this post, I've been won-over.

When I used to think of Diablo Cody, all I could thinks of what this stripper chick who got lucky -- and not THAT kind of lucky, ha-ha! But now thanks to this post, and getting a peek into her own life, I have a reknewed respect for Diablo.

So great job, there, Scott. VERY GOOD post.

I felt that Jennifer's Body was writen and directed by people who didn't know much about the horror genre. It never completely set up the rules of the world. The comedy was fun, but it got in the way of any tense moments.

I love Diablo Cody and the way she writes dialogue. This just felt like a first draft that never got rewritten. I'll still go see her next film on opening weekend.

We heard today that Universal paid low seven figures for Diablo's pitch, for Marc Platt to produce.

Diablo went to film school and probably wrote a script there. I'm a fan of hers, but JB is a dreadful script. Tara, in my opinion, is her best work and shows off her greatest asset: character.
