It's not just this little-known DoD program that is working to reverse the dearth of realistic, engaging characterization of science in mainstream film (and other media).

The Alfred P. Sloan Prize, offered at Sundance, Tribeca, and Hamptons festivals, is awarded "for new feature films that probe science and technology with insight and depict scientists and engineers in fresh, entertaining or provocative ways."

The Sloan Foundation also supports projects in development, "to see them into commercial production at the major studios and networks."
