He had no competition, either, everything is in reruns, it would have been hard for him NOT to win his slot ... the big challenge will be when the fall season begins ... and I think he may be in trouble.

Just another twist in the ever changing face of the biz. I don't exactly see Leno's show as a threat only because of the major precedent at work here... stuff like Jack Parr, Steve Allen, perhaps the old Groucho YOU BET YOUR LIFE show, What's My Line, etc. Those shows were all comedy/variety stuff, some of which in the prime time hours. And that was considered TV's golden age since shows like Playhouse 90 and The Twilight Zone and Your Show of Shows existed right alongside in happy harmony.

Even if more Leno variety hour type copycats spring up, I don't see it as a complete death sentence for TV writers. A minor hiccup, maybe. Who knows what'll happen next? A sudden reawakening of the half hour sitcom? Still cheap to produce... single set, three camera setups like Norman Lear type material? Who knows...

And then there's always the web, an ever shifting entity in its own right.

I'm usually not a half-full type guy (a collected perusal of my posts on these pages would certainly prove that) but I guess I'm getting old enough to see trends go full circle.

Geez, now THAT'S far more depressing!

Getting old is only in our mind.
Age never prevented people from doing things:

I don't watch Leno or much network stuff...

but I'm not getting why Leno changed shows. Does he get a bigger cut (more money) of this new show? I thought he was already getting a bazillion dollars for The Tonight Show.

And I don' think we'll be seeing too many of these show... or too many that will succeed. Not too many people can carry a show like this. It looks easy but it's hard.
