The '07-'08 strike brought little in the way of benefits to writers and arguably contributed to some negative changes in practices - such as doing away with a guaranteed rewrite after first draft, getting rid of tons of first look and overall deals. Also it was just about 2008 when the major studios started going about their current model of minimizing the number of movies they produce while maximizing profits. That, of course, reduces jobs for screenwriters. One thing it did do was to get studios and networks to acknowledge they were making money off Internet presence and provide some nominal revenue to writers. All in all, I think you'd be hard pressed to find WGA members who feel the strike was a victory. Not diminishing at all the legitimacy of our side's goals, just the results were almost uniformly negative.
