Universal will be back. They've made great movies before. They'll make 'em again.

Sorry to hear that "Land of the Lost" bombed so bad, NEVER like hearing a movie does bad. ALWAYS want the studios to be making money hand over fist. (Hopefully someday SOME of that money will make its way to me)

BUT maybe now Universal will pay closer attention to the spec. market and TRY to find interesting projects rather that what they had previously considered "pre-sold" ideas.

Orwell wrote a brilliant essay on the English language and its power to dull the masses through vague, overused words and phrases. It should be required reading for writers:

I have to believe that given Universal titles such as STATE OF PLAY, DUPLICITY, PUBLIC ENEMIES, and FUNNY PEOPLE, it's no wonder audiences didn't rush the ticket counter. That reads like a list of titles I'd swear I'd seen before, either on HBO some lazy Saturday or sitting on the shelf at Blockbuster the last twenty years.

And "Public Enemies" is probably the worst offender on that list because the story is pure populism. It's modern-day folk heroes ripping off banks during an economic crisis that the banks caused. But you wouldn't know that from the title, and that seems like exactly the type of movie that would sell tickets these days.
