I learned that pairing two strong characters who each want something from the other--like approval, as shown in this script--creates tension that persists even without big actions or set pieces. This script was very efficient--restricted in character, plot, and scenes, but the dialogue and flow are handled so well that it reads very natural and unfolds in a satisfying way--just like a good conversation should. I think sometimes I enjoy watching the "big" movies so much that I forget how satisfying it is to read/write/think "small". This script reminded me that small moments are where we tend to connect in our own lives and where we have a chance to connect with readers when we write.
