Wow, maybe I should have just shot myself before deciding to pursue this career.
One thing I can note about marketing is that the Internet has changed it forever. The most notable one sheet I can remember (Evan Almighty) made me NOT want to see it.
Nowadays you have one stop marketing with sites like YouTube, Facebook, etc. so you can spend a lot less (relatively, in my knowledge of it) by putting trailers up with one sheets. You can even target demographics based on the time of day so if you want to market to 18-25 you choose one time slot but 25-45 will get another. That means you don't "over-market" which I see all the time with print ads, but even theaters are buying less print ads, they are relying on their web sites.
All of that is not to say that the good movie part isn't required but at least the marketing bill can go down. Maybe.
