There's a story about a father and son who were stuck in a major traffic jam. A semi truck's trailer was too tall for the overpass and got wedged in. After fireman and workers tried everything to dislodge the truck the little kid rolled down his window and said "Why don't you just let the air out of the tires?" Problem solved. Moral of the story? Surround yourself with some of those little brats so they can solve your problems for you. Just kidding. Maybe.

Something I do when I'm stuck on a story problem is I'll literally write out the question "What's the absolute wrong way to do this?" Or sometimes " What's the worst way to write this scene?" Than I brainstorm all the wrong or stupid ways to do it. Usually after a few minutes the solution will jump up and punch me in the face. It's weird. Maybe because I'm taking pressure off of myself but that seems to work. Andrew Stanton of Pixar has a saying "Get it wrong as fast as you can!" I've even been so stuck on a story that I wrote a beat sheet of the WRONG way to tell this story. Sure enough about half way through all kinds of solutions popped up.
