What I loved about Spotlight was that I felt like I was watching a movie for grown-ups. And don't get me wrong: I loved The Force Awakens. I love a good action movie, but I think it was that balance of just the right tone that made this so engaging to watch. Plus my hometown was mentioned in a movie! Oh wait...

I totally agree, Dave. I wish there were more films like this one made today. Another 'grown-up' movie that I enjoyed this year was "Brooklyn". There are some out there but they are too infrequent, in my humble opinion.
