A great topic, Scott! Among the "usual suspects" rules writers seem to endlessly argue about is proper use of voice over and flashbacks. Specifically, the rule seems to be: don't. And 2 more I offer for discussion: The rule that the protagonist must have a character flaw. The rule that there must be a "B" story, a love story.

Paul, I will deal with voice-over narration and flashbacks in this series. Happy to take on both of your other concerns: I loathe the idea of character 'flaw' as it is surface level writing at its worst. Re B story / love story: Again, surface level. I'll put these on my calendar to address as reader questions. Ping me if I don't get to these by next week (this week is ridiculous).
