"Brian Johnson: Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But we think you're crazy to make an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us... In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain...

Andrew Clark: ...and an athlete...

Allison Reynolds: ...and a basket case...

Claire Standish: ...a princess...

John Bender: ...and a criminal...

Brian Johnson: Does that answer your question?... Sincerely yours, the Breakfast Club."

This passing really rocked me, Scott. I pretty much thought about being a writer because of John Hughes.

I just posted this in my tribute on my blog. From Planes, Trains and Automobiles:

"You wanna hurt me? Go right ahead if it makes you feel any better. I'm an easy target. Yeah, you're right, I talk too much. I also listen too much. I could be a cold-hearted cynic like you... but I don't like to hurt people's feelings. Well, you think what you want about me; I'm not changing. I like... I like me. My wife likes me. My customers like me. 'Cause I'm the real article. What you see is what you get."

Man do I feel old now.

This guy's movies basically made my generation tick.

In fact, an interesting confession... in high school, I was no less a film nerd than I am today, but I was even worse, I was a film snob. If it was popular, I turned my nose up and loudly declared my superiority. Thus, I feigned total apathy to Hughes films...

...when of course the opposite was true. I poured over them just as much as my classmates. The guy simply had total prescience about that most horrifying of life stages known as "the teen years." On top of that, the guy had a real gift for comedy. Therefore, two quotes to represent both sides of Mr. Hughes...

(from Planes, Trains, and Autos)
Neal: Del... Why did you kiss my ear?
Del: Why are you holding my hand?
Neal: Where's your other hand?
Del: Between two pillows...
Neal: Those aren't pillows!

(and then this one from Some Kind of Wonderful... corny but effective...)

"I'd rather be with someone for the wrong reasons then alone for the right."

Been a rough couple of days for screenwriters, man...

Clark Griswold: Excuse me. Could you please tell me how to get back on the expressway?
Pimp (in St. Louis): Man, f**k yo mama!
Clark Griswold: Thank you very much.
- National Lampoon's Vacation

Haha, I've always loved that scene.

RIP John Hughes

You know when people say, "I don't know what to say" but end up figuring out what to say?

This isn't one of those times.

Kevin McCallister: This house is so full of people it makes me sick. When I grow up and get married, I'm living alone.

Home Alone

Who knew he wanted to be a writer?

It's between two pillows.

You're messing with the wrong guy.

The whole rent a car scene, but especially:

Your'e fucked.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

There are so many, great, memorable quotes.

But one of my favorites...

Ferris: Life goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you might miss it.

There's a great montage video someone made on the ol' YouTube.
