I would add to the list the saying: “(well) it depends / -- on what? / On --” Every time I hear the phrase, it creates some kind of unnatural pause, and then the other character jumps in: on what? As if first speaker had suddenly forgotten his thought. It’s funny, I’m not sure whether I’m right here. Since English is my second language… In Russian we don’t usually break the phrase: something depends on something else. It’s either speak out fully, or silent in case of subtext (and in some cases it can provide rich subtext). It's true for fiction and live conversation.
