I'm netflixing Freaks and Geeks right now, which does a pretty good job balancing silly comedy with deeper, more mature themes. It never gets to the level of "Superbad" yet that's what Apatow is known for these days. Considering half of the cast still works on Apatow comedies, and some even got there start there, I think this is more of a transition back to what put him on the map in the first place.
