Howdy sir,
Got pointed from my "mentor" Mystery Man. Interesting stuff thus far. I love that there are blogs liek this where true film making discourse can occur.
As a more than fulltime SW developer I can't quite go back to school - though I have gotten as many of the Tisch texts as I can.
Anyway, E\I is an interestign concept and one that is difficult to master if you study "screenwriting" instead of "film making."
I particularly espouse the use of The Hero's Journey for it's flexibility in creating situations based on "archetypal collisions."
I think many "pre-pros" don't realize the circular nature of cinema at its heart.
Conflict doesn't just happen; juxtaposition of archetypes causes it. I like to call it "juxtaposition of banality" in that rape is not so "evil" for the rapist and his time is spent as banally as the victim.
These juxtaposed banalities are at work in every interaction (or should be).
Things the MENTOR says are in conflict with what the SHADOW does, etc.
The "journey" also helps to understand how the transformative arc works; it's not a "change" per se but more, I believe, a change in perception of the External world or the realization of how our Internal values become "negatively-impacting social traits" when exposed to the Enemies.
At any rate, great site. Hopefully my blog will have some useful stuff.
