Rio Bravo (1959) Screenplay by Jules Furthman and Leigh Brackett; based on a short story by B.H. McCampbell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpkvOmyrJMo GUNMAN 1: Sheriff, we ran into some trouble on the road. Al here's hurt. His horse threw him. Your deputy said we could find a doctor. CHANCE: Around the corner, about three or four doors to the right. GUNMAN 1: Stay away from that rifle, Sheriff. You can see we've still got our guns. GUNMAN 2: That ain't your deputy up the street, my friend. GUNMAN 1: Unloosen that belt. CHANCE: What have you done to him? GUNMAN 2: Don't worry about him. GUNMAN 1: Worry about yourself. He's alright. But he ain't gonna be and neither are you unless you do as you're told. COLORADO: (Pushing Feathers back from the door) Stay back here. GUNMAN 1: We're goin' down to the jail. You're gonna turn Joe Burdette loose or you and your deputy are gonna stop worrying about this whole thing. Take your choice. FEATHERS: You just gonna stand here? COLORADO: If you want to get him shot, just go out there. GUNMAN 1: What'll it be? COLORADO: If you want to do something, when I get out on the porch in the clear, take that flower pot and throw it through the window, then duck after you throw it. Colorado walks casually out of the hotel. GUNMAN 2: Just keep coming mister. COLORADO: Who, men? GUNMAN 2: Yes, you. Feathers throws the flower pot through the window. Colorado uses the distraction to toss Chance's rifle to him and together they kill all the gunmen. DIALOGUE ON DIALOGUE: Up to this point Colorado Ryan hadn't really chosen sides in the dispute between Sheriff John Chance and cattleman Nathan Burdette. Seeing Chance caught off-guard, Colorado helps Chance recover, which commits him to becoming a deputy or risk being hunted down by Burdette's men. This scene is the first glimpse we get into Colorado's decision-making character.

True Romance (1993) - The Sicilian scene Script by Quentin Tarantino Vincenzo: You know, Sicilians are great liars. Best in the world. I'm Sicilian. My father was the world heavyweight of Sicilian liars. From growing up with him I learned the pantomime. There are 17 different things a guy can do to give himself away. A woman's got 20, a guy's got 17. If you know them like you know your own face, they beat lie detectors all to hell. Now what we got here is a little game of show and tell. You don't want to show me nothing but you're telling me everything. I know you know where they are so tell me before I do some damage you won't walk away from. Clifford: Could I have one of those Chesterfields now. Vincenzo: Sure Clifford: You got a match? Don't bother I got one. You're a Sicilian, huh? You know I read a lot, especially about things, about history. I find that shit fascinating. Here's a fact, I don't know whether you know or not. Sicilians were spawned by niggers. Vincenzo: Come again. Clifford: It's a fact. You see Sicilians have black blood pumping through their hearts. If you don't believe me, you can look it up. Hundreds and hundreds of years ago. The Moors conquered Sicily, and the Moors are niggers. You see way back then, Sicilians were like Wops, from Northern Italy. They all had blond hair and blue eyes. But then the Moors moved in and they changed the whole country. They did so much fucking with Sicilian women, hah, that they changed the whole bloodline forever. That's why blond hair and blue eyes became black hair and dark skin. You know it's absolutely amazing to me to think that to this day, hundreds of years later, that Sicilians still carry that nigger gene. No I'm quoting history. It's a fact, it's written. Your ancestors are niggers. And your great, great, great, great grandmother fucked a nigger. Yeah. And she had a half nigger kid. If that's a fact, tell me, am I lying, cos' you, you're part eggplant. LAUGHTER Vincenzo: You're a cantaloupe. Beautiful. Vincenzo shoots Clifford. Vincenzo: I haven't killed anybody since 1984. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3yon2GyoiM With the inevitability that Vincenzo (Christopher Walkin) will kill Clifford (Dennis Hopper) if he doesn't give up his son, and Clifford's refusal to do so, the scene becomes one of a final cigarette and a final insult. Trivia: QT considers this one of his finest written scenes. Check out his Director's Chair interviews with Robert Rodriguez (El Ray).

"It's a Wonderful Life" (1946) by Francis Goodrich, Albert Hackett and Frank Capra -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPkJH6BT7dM During this scene Mary has come up behind the counter. Suddenly, as the people once more start moving toward the door, she holds up a roll of bills and calls out MARY How much do you need? George jumps over the counter and takes the money from Mary. GEORGE Hey! I got two thousand dollars! Here's two thousand dollars. This'll tide us over until the bank reopen. (to Tom) All right, Tom, how much do you need? TOM (doggedly) Two hundred and forty-two dollars! GEORGE (pleading) Aw, Tom, just enough to tide you over till the bank reopens. TOM I'll take two hundred and forty-two dollars. George starts rapidly to count out the money. Tom throws his passbook on the counter. GEORGE There you are. TOM That'll close my account. GEORGE Your account's still here. That's a loan. Mary turns and slips out through the crowd, followed by Ernie. George hands the two hundred and forty-two dollars to Tom, and speaks to Ed, the next in line. GEORGE Okay. All right, Ed? ED I got three hundred dollars here, George. Uncle Billy takes out his wallet and takes out all the cash he's got. GEORGE Aw, now, Ed... what'll it take till the bank reopens? What do you need? ED Well, I suppose twenty dollars. GEORGE Twenty dollars. Now you're talking. Fine. Thanks, Ed. (to Mrs. Thompson, next in line) All right, now, Mrs. Thompson. How much do you want? MRS. THOMPSON But it's your own money, George. GEORGE Never mind about that. How much do you want? MRS. THOMPSON I can get along with twenty, all right. GEORGE (counting it out) Twenty dollars. MRS. THOMPSON And I'll sign a paper. GEORGE You don't have to sign anything. I know you'll pay it back when you can. That's okay. (to woman next in line) All right, Mrs. Davis. MRS. DAVIS Could I have seventeen-fifty? GEORGE Seven... (he kisses her) Bless your heart, Of course you can have it. You got fifty cents? (counting) Seven... WIPE TO: INT. OUTER OFFICE BUILDING AND LOAN – NIGHT CLOSE SHOT George, Uncle Billy and Cousin Tilly are behind the counter, watching the minute hand of a clock on the wall as George counts off the seconds. Cousin Eustace is ready to close the door. UNCLE BILLY (excitedly) We're going to make it, George. They'll never close us up today! GEORGE (counting) Six... five... four... three... two... one... Bingo! Dialogue on dialogue: Gave his ear to save his brother. Gave up college. Gave up his honeymoon. The whole movie is about sacrifice, but this scene shows how George influences ALL of Bedford Falls, not just the Building & Loan. When Mary shouts, "How much do you need?" it makes me tear up almost as much the famous ending. And, that Tom -- what a jerk.

[Voices are calling out in the Jungle] Forrest Gump: Bubba. Forrest Gump: (V.O.) And on my way back to find Bubba, well there was this boy laying on the ground. Forrest Gump: Tex. Lieutenant Daniel Taylor: [on radio] Listen Strongarm, I know my position is danger close, we’ve got Charlie all over this area. I’ve got to have those fast movers in here now, over? Radio Operato: (O.S.) Red, Strongarm… Forrest Gump: Lieutenant Dan, Coleman’is dead. Lieutenant Daniel Taylor: I know he’s dead, my whole god damn platoon is wiped out. Radio Operato: (O.S.) Forrest Gump: (v.O) If I'd a known that was the last time me and Bubba was gonna talk, I’d of thought of something better to say. Forrest Gump: Hey Bubba. Bubba: Hey Forrest. Forrest? Why did this happen? Forrest Gump: You got shot. Forrest Gump: (V.O.) Then, Bubba said something I won't ever forget. Bubba: I wanna go home. Forrest Gump: (V.O.) Bubba was my best good friend. And even I know that ain't something you can find just around the corner. Bubba was going to be a shrimping boat captain, but instead, he died right there by that river in Vietnam Comment- The epitome of selflessness; Forrest just wanted to make sure his best good friend was OK.
