That's a nice tid bit of writerly thoery... As screenwriters we seemingly get bogged down trying to get our facts to meet the shape of the story...

When in fact, it's the imagination that tends to win out in cinema.

And Star Wars explosions simply SOUND much better in space.

Re sound in space: Ha! I always wondered about the shapes of all the aircraft in sci-fi movies. I'm not a physics expert, but once you're in zero gravity, it shouldn't matter what shape the ship is, if it has wings or not, etc, yes?

But in the end, as you note, it doesn't matter. Cool-looking (and sounding) wins out over facts when it comes to movies almost every time.
