Re sound in space: Ha! I always wondered about the shapes of all the aircraft in sci-fi movies. I'm not a physics expert, but once you're in zero gravity, it shouldn't matter what shape the ship is, if it has wings or not, etc, yes?

But in the end, as you note, it doesn't matter. Cool-looking (and sounding) wins out over facts when it comes to movies almost every time.
