As popular as the sequence theory may be nowadays, the script for Dallas Buyers Club doesn't slot into that approach very neatly. Yes, there are sequences. However because they story jumps from Ron to Rayon to Dr. Saks, there are often stand-alone scenes which don't fit into a sequence.
I wonder if this is a reflection of the story being a biopic. As discussed, a person's life generally doesn't lay out in nice, neat sequences. Rather we move all about in our life-process. And while the writers certainly tried - and succeeded - in pulling together a coherent narrative in DBC, there is a kind of loosey-goosey feel to the plot at times, a reflection of real life, yet defies being squeezed into a sequence approach.
Proof once again there is no single way to write a script. Stories are organic. Our screenplays should reflect that.
