There are a lot of sequences in this script, but I'll leave that for tomorrow. Here are some of the major plot points: 1-8: Opening in which we meet Ron, rodeo sex, and first collapse. 11-13: Ron learns he has HIV. 20-24: Searching for AZT. 33-34: Ron meets Rayon. 44-45: Ron gets drugs from Dr. Vass in Mexico. 57-58: Rayon makes Ron a deal to help market drugs to the gay community. 63: Dallas Buyers Club is a success. 72-74: Ron goes to Japan to obtain interferon. 90-91: IRS audit. 101: DBC shut down by FDA. 108: DBC resurrected and now free. 119: Rayon dies. 128: Ron runs out of legal options. 141: Ron is arrested by the feds. 148: Ron's case is dismissed by the courts. Since this is an adaptation of a real life story, we can expect a narrative that takes a sometimes circuitous route to get to where it needs to go. Such is the nature of biopics or snapshot bios, a more apt description of this movie. Generally speaking, a person's life doesn't play out as a neat narrative. And so whereas in a piece of fiction, the studio may have insisted that the Dallas Buyers Club be up and running by P.30, it doesn't come into being until PP.57-63. And where the studio may have wanted Rayon's death to happen toward the end of the story, to sustain the relationship between he and Ron, and milk the tragedy, Rayon dies on P.119, leaving another 29 pages until the story's end. But for all its wanderings following the contours of Ron and Rayon's lives, there is still a three act feel to its structure: First Movement: Pre-Dallas Buyers Club. Transition: DBC up and running. Second Movement: Dallas Buyers Club blooms. Transition: DBC busted Third Movement: Full-on legal assault on Ron and the Dallas Buyers Club. Denouement: Victory. Interwoven throughout the plot are the ups and downs of the lives of three characters: Ron, Rayon, and Dr. Saks. Tomorrow we'll see if we can break down the story into sequences. Great script possibly one of the best I've read. Think it's quite structurally straight forward even with the A B and C stories of Ron, Rayon and Eve. Rons original world (homophobic/drug abusing), inciting incident learning that he has HIV, transition - trying to find AZT/medication, meeting Rayon, Finding Dr Vass and finding he had AIDS establishing DBC, second big test, challenges from authorities, Dr Sevard, police, FDA, second transition - DBC becomes successful, more medication - interferon All is lost - IRS audit and FDA close down DBC (this overlaps with on the defensive and the DBC now being free, Ron gives the drugs away also brings Rayons and Rons story full circle, acceptance, they hug when Rayon gives Ron the money from selling insurance policy (compare to his first interaction with a homosexual man at the first HIV/AIDS meeting) concludes with Rayons death On the offensive - final court cases which are dismissed Victory. Awesome script, awesome cast and beautiful performances.

One thing you noted: Ron's metamorphosis from a deeply biased man - immigrants, gays - to one who through his experience of being immersed in the LGBT culture becomes more and more open to those he would have at first considered to be The Other. His embrace of Rayon a great visual symbol of that and a deeply touching moment.
