I normally stake out four primary plot points, but I'll add a fifth and sixth point here as they represent key turning points in the story:
Opening: PP. 1-5, establish Young Joe, the whole Looper dynamic, and an intro to the future story universe.
Act One End: PP. 26-32, incident between Young Joe and Kid Blue, Joe closes his loop, then Young Joe becomes Old Joe montage (introducing Old Joe character).
Transition One: PP. 39-50, Young Joe meets Old Joe.
Transition Two: PP. 61-68, Young Joe at Sarah's farm, Old Joe kills first kid on the list.
Act Two End: PP. 83-90, visit by Gat Man, it's inevitable Old Joe is going to show up.
Ending: PP. 104-113, the Final Struggle wherein Young Joe shoots himself to kill Old Joe.
When you track the plot per the scene-by-scene breakdown, you really can see the sense inevitability of the narrative. At some point, Young Joe and Old Joe are going to have to square off.
And yet, so many surprises including revelation that Sid could become Rainmaker.
Plus the big one -- Young Joe committing suicide -- which in the fact of seeming predestination functions as an act of free will, that dynamic tension at the core of one of the stories key themes.
