I remember this post... I forget who else responded, but I am a synthesizer... in fact, I think because of your original post, I started thinking more about my creative process and adapted my workflow accordingly. So it was quite helpful. But here's a question, which kind of creator does Will see himself as? I imagine it's hard to be a perfecter in anything today, it feels like everything's already been done. But hasn't it always felt that way? How daunting must it be to try and innovate in a field with a history replete with great masters?

Nice one Will! I'm an innovator. I like to Master the 'rules', then break them and produce better rules.

Great to hear, Chris, I'll pass along that info to Will how the post helped shape your writing practices. Re what type of creative Will thinks he is: I know we had this conversation at some point and honestly, I can't remember what he said. I'll ask him. As far as composing music given the backdrop of great masters, I'll ask him about that as well. Thanks!

Master the rules, then break them. There you go, Michael. Good sense of self-understanding: Innovator!

You know, "the backdrop of the great masters" reminded me that I had heard that a huge percentage of human music has been lost to time... that all the music we know is just a small little sampling. And I remember I had heard the same thing about literature, that Odyssey and Illiad were just two chapters of a seven chapter story, and we'll never know what the other five are. Isn't it funny to think "everything has been done" while realizing how little our pool of knowledge is?

Terrific article! Made me stop and think...writing could be overwhelming sometimes... I guess I'm a stretcher...it's not on the list, so I don't know what it is... I guess it means I like to keep exploring options because you'd never know what will solidify into something solid...it's a bit ADD to be like that, but it urges me exhaust all possibilities... I also know I'm not a Perfecter: once I see a masterpiece, I fall in love with it, and I SO don't wanna replicate it...I just wanna do different...gives me a sense of ownership... Man, I so don't make sense ?
