Its interesting how pulling apart these films is helping shed light on how deep a theme can go in a story. I haven't really been attuned to that, and am still frankly way behind in seeing it, but your points about "being rogue" existing in even the smallest subplot and character qualities is intriguing. There's a single word that describes use of style, right? (Grammar peeps?)
One theme I think runs throughout is trust. Hunt seems to inherently trust Ilsa, even though as a viewer, we're not clear where her allegiance lies. Also, Luther clearly places all his trust in Hunt, even noting to Brandt that if he doubted Brandt's loyalty he'd kill him (or, something like that).
Same goes for Benji. He trusts Hunt will come through for him in the water dive scene, even though Hunt himself isn't sure he will. Sure enough, Benji walks through that last scan with just a quick gulp.
Isla is also trusted by Atlee AND Lane. Atlee says at one point there is only one person he can trust (her), and Lane, trusts her so much, it almost borders on reckless, given all of her missteps.
The only character devoid of trust is Huntley ... he doesn't really trust anyone it seems.
So, trust in every sense was a big one for me in this film.
