Addendum: It's impressive how the Wachowskis got so much out of one little scene. The scene not only works as a call to adventure but sets up Cypher's later character introduction, when he says to to Neo, "I know what you're thinking. You're thinking why didn't I take the blue pill." This is turn sets up one of the major plot points, when Cypher betrays Neo and Morpheus to Agent Smith, in exchange for returning him to the 'reality' of the Matrix.

Yes, Michael, and what's interesting is the content of the scene is largely exposition. Which just goes to show that the number one key to handling exposition is making sure the data, information, revelations are compelling in nature. The Matrix. Such a wonderful movie. And terrific script.
