Great final scene, yes. But still a happy Hollywood ending--probably the happiest double suicide in history. Seriously--two smiling, great looking, liberated babes flying through space in an open convertible to a pulsating beat and the gobsmacked amazement of all those mere earthlings. This, my friend, is not just a happy ending, it's the happiest of all endings.

And, of course, they don't crash, the last image of the movie as it dissolves to FADE OUT is the car floating through mid-air like some angelic presence.

I suspect a crash-and-burn would have undercut the 'happy' ending just a little bit!

It's very important that we don't see them crash. Then the image of freedom remains.

Great movie.

And it was her first script. Marvelous. How many succeeds with THAT?
