Uh oh, the last two huge CGI animal movies were box-office busts (Golden Compass and Evan Almighty) because making those animals real blows the the roof off the budget. Maybe they've finally figured out how to make the technology cheap.

Hi, Scott. I was wondering if you could explain what a preemptive buy is? It's mentioned in a few of your sale posts. It's kind of jargony and I'm wondering what basics a screenwriters should know about this kind of sale.
