Analyzing the script's structure is a reminder of how challenging it is to shape the life of a person into a story. There are four dominating narrative elements at work here: Barney's relationships with his three wives and the confirmation of his Alzeheimer's, leading to his death. There are other relationships which are significant -- Izzy, Boogie -- but the four mentioned above, I think, create the stuff of the plot's spine. So here are some key plot points: 1-4: The opening. 18-20: Barney marries Clara. 24-25: Clara dead from suicide. 41-42: Barney marries the 2nd Mrs. P. / Meets Miriam. 64-71: Wanting to divorce 2nd Mrs. P, discover her sleeping with Boogie / Boogie's presumed death. 83-84: Barney marries Miriam. 99: Izzy dies. 115-117: His life with Miriam is over. 120: Barney has Alzheimer's. 124-125: Police find Boogie's remains. 129-130: Miriam visits Barney's grave. Working through sequences will be interesting with all the cuts back and forth between present and past. But I think they're in place. If anyone wants to take a crack at that tomorrow, please do!
