What a thrill watching and listening to the clip of 'The Trolley Song' again. It sure brightened up my morning! Find out about the great Irving Brecher, who wrote 'Meet Me in St. Louis' -- and talked Judy Garland into doing the film -- in Brecher's new book, 'The Wicked Wit of the West' (that's the nickname Groucho gave Brecher, the last of the Golden Age comedy screenwriters; Brecher wrote two Marx Brothers comedies solo).
Brecher's co-author, Hank Rosenfeld, spent seven years recording Brecher's juicy stories, over many pastrami sandwiches, at delis all over Los Angeles.
Brecher died Nov. 17, 2008, two months before his 95th birthday.
