It might depend on how many different names/universes there are. In the Tootsie PDF I've seen, in the scene description where Michael first appears as Dorothy, it opens "Michael, in drag," and for the rest of the script dialogue headings are DOROTHY when in drag and MICHAEL when out. Maybe when the first universe change occurs, your scene action appears as "WILLIAM, AKA BILL, enters through a flash of light." and within that scene continues as BILL, then back to heading as WILLIAM in Universe A scenes. If you're dealing with more than two, multiple AKA action intros could work, but maybe a cleaner way would be if you were able to give your character a descriptive name like TRAVELER, or SHIFTER or JUMPER. That name could stay constant throughout the script, and in each universe change you can initially refer to the localized name in parens in the dialogue heading: TRAVELER (WILLIAM), TRAVELER (BILL), TRAVELER (MXYZPTLK), etc.. and then just TRAVELER from there on in the scene. This would probably be easiest on the reader/actor if there are several universes. Hope this helps, - j

Jerry, I like your suggestion a lot: Give the character some sort of generic designation a la Traveler, then specify it once with each jump from universe to universe, and THEN just use the generic designation for the duration of that time within that universe... until the next jump. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Great idea! Thanks!
