Scott, what do you think this does to the spec market? How does this year's business seem compared to last year?

At the end of the first quarter, I'm going to do a comparison to 08, but my sense is that it's a slower spec script market so far this year. More on that the first week of April.

When Ford lays off workers it’s understandable because they aren’t selling cars. When Starbucks doesn’t sell as much coffee, employees are laid off and that makes business sense. But people are going to the movies in record numbers. To me, this looks like yet another way that the fat cats in the movie industry are taking short term profits at the expense of the workers.

Mike, you're preaching to the choir! And if someone is still not sure about the politics of this, during the last work stoppage, word came down from WGA leadership that the AMPTP's goal was to break the union. IMHO, corporate greed has run rampant starting for nearly 30 years and they've managed to swallow a goodly portion of America's middle class in the process.

Which reminds me of a great quote from Oliver Stone about the movie studios. I'll have to track that down and post it.

It's disheartening, because they're killing the golden geese, and they can't even see it.
