I was JUST watching a DVD set of Rodney Dangerfield last night, and swear to you he used that SAME joke in a TV special he did. IN FACT a lot of Rodney/Thorton Melon's lines in "Back to School" can be heard in those TV specials. Harold Ramis was credited as one of writer in the first special I watched ('80 or '81) and Harold Ramis acted in the second ('83).

Back when I was a teenager, my brother and I watched "Back to School" so many times we could practically recite the entire movie.

The farce of Rodney Dangerfield being a champion high diver totally WORKS for me.

I read a script he and his writers were crafting for him as a starring vehicle called The Scout. They literally had sides of dialogue which weren't written, instead having the words, "Insert joke here."

Albert Brooks eventually did the movie.
