There are other important features of Roger's character: He never lies, and he's *always* right in his judgement of people. It's just that given his nature nobody believes him. (It's also a brilliantly put together movie with superbly disguised set-ups and pay-offs on everything that Roger says - including the above quoted line about how sometimes laughter is the only weapon we have. Which is exactly how it works in the end.)

Steve, good insights. Not surprised re set-ups and payoffs seeing as Zemeckis is involved. Just need look at Back to the Future to see there's a lineage there as that movie is an homage to setups and payoffs. Your observations make me want to screen WFRR again, only seen it once when it first came out. Adding it to my re-watch list. Thanks for 'nudge'!
