This whole saga is a frequent topic of conversation for my office - the Planning Section for the Clark County Department of Aviation. We operate the sixth busiest airport in the country, McCarran International in Las Vegas, and we're planning the construction of an additional airport south of our valley, the most expensive civil project ever (thanks to inflation).

If this occurred here – a major migratory flyway – it most certainly would have had much more disastrous results as we are landlocked by the city in the base of a valley ringed by 6,000 – 8,000 ft mountain ranges.

One of Sully’s unique skills is that of a glider pilot. I certainly hope that documentarians make note of it. However, as Sontag points out, the crew reacted in a most professional manner as well, and their contributions should not be minimized either.

Hopefully any dramatizations will do justice for the entire crew and passengers.
