It sounds like you've narrowed it with one stable element - focus on that strong story concept and characters and write that incredible script!

Julie, the confusion likely lies in referring to two areas of money: The first is box office revenues, which are up; the area in discussion per the recent event at the WGA Theater was talking about development dollars which evidently are down. The latter is more reflective of a downward trend in DVD sales (for the last 18 months or more); if box office continues to go up, perhaps development budgets rise as well. But I suspect most of Hwood sees the current B.O. uptick as a temporary thing related to consumers responding to the recession - wanting cheap (relatively) entertainment.
